Even after all those months, Maggie was still not over it. She paced back and forth in her room, her eyes fixed on the photos of her boyfriend that hang on the walls.
Her parents had made her break up with him. They said he was no good for her, that he was getting involved with drugs. And not just any kind, but a new, experimental and supposedly very addictive type of drug. It made him lose his job, and eventually even his apartment. But still, he was the first love of her life, and she just couldn’t get him out of her head.
Maggie glanced at the clock, hesitating for a moment before finally deciding that tonight would be the night. She would sneak out and find him. Besides, she just turned 18, her parents couldn’t tell her what to do anymore.
She made her way to the old warehouse district, dodging trash cans and abandoned cars. The place where he supposedly was last seen looked horrible. The windows were either completely shattered or boarded up with plywood. The paint was peeling, and graffiti covered every inch of the walls.
Maggie hesitated for a moment, her hand on the rusty door handle. She took a deep breath and then pushed it open, stepping inside. The air was thick with the smell of mold, rotting garbage, and something else she couldn’t quite place. Her footsteps echoed on the concrete floor as she ventured deeper into the darkness.
As she continued to explore, she heard a strange sound coming from somewhere ahead. It was a soft whimpering, like that of an animal in pain. Her heart raced, and she began to quicken her pace. She rounded a corner, and there she finally stumbled upon something alive.
It was a horrifying, mutated creature, its body twisted and contorted. Its skin was pale and sickly, covered in sores and lesions, red eyes sunken deep into their sockets, and from its back and shoulders grew limbs that looked like tentacles.
“Jim?” she whispered, her voice shaking. “Is that you?”
The creature didn’t respond at first. It just kept whimpering and thrashing about on the dirty floor. Maggie tried to move closer, but the smell emanating from its body was overpowering.
“J-Jim? It’s me, M-Maggie…”
Finally, the mutated creature turned its head toward her, its eyes glazed over and unfocused. He croaked, but the words were indistinguishable. Maggie flinched in fear. All she could do was stare in fright at the monstrosity that might have been once been her boyfriend.
The creature shifted its weight towards her, its movements jerky and uncoordinated. It reached out with one of its twisted tentacles, barely missing her face. She screamed, instinctively backing away. Its eyes seemed to focus for a moment, and it opened its mouth wide, revealing sharp, rotting teeth.
Maggie panicked and tried to run away, but there was nowhere to go in the small, cramped space. The creature grasped her roughly by her leg with one of its tentacles and pulled her closer.
